What you’re not going to see reviewed in Cosmetic Monster – MAC Quite Cute Collection. Much like the Wonder Woman collection minus the coordinating packaging – Quite Cute is just a little too cute for my taste. If the packaging had all the Tokidoki-esque characters (oooh – like a limited edition Blot Powder) I would have been more inclined to purchase. There are some clever names that tie in with the Harajuku Girl image (Playing Koi, Candy Yum-Yum, Bubble Tea, Moshi Moshi!, Azuki Bean) and the Quite Cute Mineralize Blush come with a coordinating colored heart in the center of the blush giving the collection a little visual whimsy. Still, while one pastel on the face would be fine – I don’t see how these colors fit together in the real world…unless you’re in Harajuku. A lot of the products are sold out online – so I’m obviously the minority in my opinion.
On the flip side, MAC has also released NEW Prep+Prime Highlighters and Vibrancy Eye. I’m particularly excited about the highlighter pens which come in three colors: Light Boost (Soft Yellow Cream), Bright Forcast (Midtone Peachy Coral) and Radiant Rose (Light Shell Pink). I’m assuming this is based on the YSL Touche Eclat concept (lets give credit where credit is due.) Stay tuned for a Cosmetic Monster review on these. Trivia: Terry de Gunzburg of By Terry was Director of Makeup Design at Yves Saint Laurent and has been credited for the creation of their infamous Touche Eclat.
Sorry, I’ve been so busy catching up on reviews and tending to my sick kids that I haven’t had the chance to blog here! Lots of cool stuff happening though.
I managed to catalog my lip products which I’ll post later.
As fate would have it, I have been good about not buying too much cosmetics – except for the Couture Colour hair color that I splurged on after killing my hair with Nice ‘n Easy Color Blend Foam (which was the worst color ever). Sephora is having their 15% off V.I.B. Sale from the 14-21. Yay! Its not 20% – but I’ll take it.
The worst part about not working in retail anymore (maybe the ONLY bad part) is not getting the discount and immediate access to what’s new. But with the beauty blogs, magazines and the internet, I stay pretty informed – plus I’m more interested in making NEW brand discoveries than I am with the already established (sorry Estee Lauder – but do you really need my help or opinion?) LOL!
